  Granite Mountain Long Loop Hike

This trail starts at the Granite Mountain Trailhead within the city of Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

The trail consists of three trails: Bootlegger Trail for 0.7 miles, Saddlehorn Trail for 0.2 miles, and the Granite Mountain Loop Trail for a total advertised length of 6.1 miles (we measured it at 7 miles). It has amazing views of Granite Mountain and the surrounding desert. The trail is wide, extremely smooth, and with only a barely noticable 330 feet elevation gain.

The address for the Granite Mountain Trailhead and parking lot is: 31402 North 136th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85262. The trailhead include bathroom facilities.

From Apache Junction, it's just under an hour drive and I would recommend taking Superstition Blvd/University to the Loop 202. Then go north on Loop 101 to North Pima Road (exit 36), then right on East Dynamite Blvd. which becomes East Rio Verde Drive, and left on North 136th St and then you will see the trailhead on your left after about 2 miles (near Lone Mountain Road that goes east from 136th Street).

The dots you see beside some trails indicate that it's part of the Maricopa Trail (See it's Website).

The following 8 photos were taken on a subsequent hike where we took a right on the Coyote Canyon Trail and then returned to the Granite Mountain Trailhead (a little over 7 miles).

This crested Saguaro was our destination for this hike. It's located on the Coyote Canyon Trail near its intersection with the Desperado Trail.
